Living Proof

I never knew
how much I needed you
until you were far away from me
and I can’t go to sleep at night
without you in my dreams
my arms reach out to hold you
always grasping at what’s never there
and I can still smell your perfume
even the shampoo you use in your hair
this damn bed seems so empty
without you sleeping by my side
as my heart continues to break
the wind blows through this house
and I hear every creak in the door
as it sways back and forth
I hear voices calling out my name
calling in the graveyard of my soul
I try to cheat death
but this is my only escape
I am living proof of a dying broken heart
